Southfield latest city to pass civil liberties resolution

February 25, 2004

Resident Katie Reiter, a member of the Oakland County Bill of Rights Defense Committee, asked City Council members to adopt the resolution at Monday night's meeting. She said she hopes that as more communities pass similar resolutions, federal officials will notice that people are fearful of losing their civil liberties.

"This is such a big deal," Reiter said. "We need to stop for a minute and realize what is going on in this country. Because of fear, sometimes we create legislation that is not good for civil liberties."
